Program Overview
This program serves as the initial phase of training within the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) career pathway. It encompasses all techniques and procedures related to emergency equipment and supplies that fall under the scope of practice for an EMT-B. In addition to classroom instruction and hands-on skills training, the program includes clinical observation in a local hospital emergency room and a ride-along rotation with a local ambulance service.
To earn a certificate, students must achieve a minimum grade of "C" in the course, complete the clinical component, and demonstrate proficiency in required skills assessments. Admission to the program involves immunization documentation confirming freedom from infectious diseases.
Certification Eligibility Requirements: Successful completion of a state-approved EMT course that meets or exceeds the National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards for EMT, possession of a current CPR certification for healthcare providers, demonstration of competence in EMT skills, and successful completion of a state-approved EMT psychomotor examination.
