Course Description

Study of how nature and the environment are represented in primarily American literary and nonfiction works with an emphasis on ecocritical theory, the intersections of race and gender in environmental literature, Indigenous folktales, and nature writing. Course will also highlight how language and literature are used to both justify and critique the capitalist, neoliberal exploitation and destruction of the environment and how this exploitation is depicted in literature about the contemporaneous climate crisis.
