Media scholar George Gerbner found that heavy television viewers see real-life consistent with what he called “the TV world” rather than reality. This course takes a critical view of life as it’s presented on American television. Students will learn the basic characteristics of TV genres (drama, comedy, reality, news, and sports) and apply critical measures to evaluate programs and their messages.
